Carthage man faces charges in connection with the use of stolen credit card.
On Thursday, Moore County Sheriff's investigators arrested Matthew Shawn Cox, 24, of 400 Union Pines Drive, and charged him with five counts of identity theft, five counts of misdemeanor financial card fraud, and one count of obtaining property by false pretense. Cox was placed in the Moore County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and his first court appearance is scheduled for January 31, 2013 in Moore County District Court in Carthage.
The arrested stemmed from an investigation into a reported made on Jan. 9 regarding fraud that was reported by William Daniel McIntyre of Montgomery County.
McIntyre advised that he had received information from his bank that his credit card had suspicious transactions in Moore County. Mr. McIntyre also filed similar reports with the Biscoe and Carthage Police Departments.
Investigators with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office met with Carthage Police Department and Biscoe Police Department and viewed surveillance recordings from several stores in the Robbins and Carthage areas of Moore County. Matthew Shawn Cox was identified as the individual using Mr. McIntyre’s credit card.
