Mustang Grapplers Drop Dual Meets

The North Moore wrestling team traveled to Asheboro for a tri-meet that included Yadkin Valley Conference foe South Stanly on Saturday.

The Mustangs dropped their conference match 42-32 to the Wildcats. In the other match against host 3-A Asheboro, North Moore fell 71-9.

In the South Davidson match, the Mustangs gave up two matches to forfeits while picking up a pair of forfeits, with seniors Kyle Kidd and Paul Grant receiving the forfeits in the 182-pound and 195-pound classes, respectively.

Kidd also got one of the two victories in the Asheboro match, winning an 8-1 decision over Steven Strickland.

The two victories in Saturday’s matches improved Kidd’s overall record to 23-0 while Grant is 6-0 for the season. Kidd continues to hold on to the No. 1 ranking in the 1-A 182-pound class in the retrorankings.com polls.

Sophomore Joe Davis notched the other victory against Asheboro, pinning Samuel Perez at the 1:47 mark. Davis dropped his match to South Davidson’s Wyatt Beck. Davis is now 14-10 overall.

Junior Will Nall split his two matches in the 126-pound class, pinning South Davidson’s Bo Cooper with 2:43 showing on the clock. Nall’s record is now 5-6.

Freshman Garrett Kidd got his sixth victory of the season with an 11-7 decision over the Wildcats’ Cory Hamilton in the 132-pound division.

Senior Logan Stancil (145 pounds) split his two matches, taking a medical decision over South Davidson’s Cord McDowell and falling to the Comets’ Erick Soto.

Stancil’s overall record stands at 15-6.

Sophomore Ian Farris (160) picked up a victory for the Mustangs, pinning South Davidson’s Wyatt Suggs at the 1:19 mark while falling to Asheboro’s Brian Quintanilla.

Seniors Cole Garner (152), Ethan Morrison (138) and freshmen Chase Richardson (120) and Nicholos Smith (170) dropped both of their matches for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs get back into action Saturday when they travel to Thomasville for the Thomasville Duals.

North Moore travels to West Montgomery Jan. 23 for a conference tri-match that includes South Stanly.

Saturday’s matches are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. while the West Montgomery matches are slated to start at 6 p.m.
