19th Hole: Hurricane Jr. Tour Sets Three N.C. Events
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour continues its expansion into North Carolina with three events scheduled for the coming year.
The three tournaments listed are March 2-3 at Lochmere Golf Club in Cary, April 27-28 at N.C. State University’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, and Sept. 21-22 at Fox Den Country Club in Charlotte.
These three events are among 85 scheduled for the Hurricane Junior Tour in 2013, according to officials.
These tournaments will be ranked in accordance with the Tarheel Youth Golf Association. The TYGA is the leading and most prominent of the ranking systems throughout the state of North Carolina and is extremely beneficial for young players seeking exposure, offering them the opportunity to compete with the best junior golfers in the state.
The Hurricane Tour has produced more than 2,500 collegiate golfers who have signed letters of intent at more than 200 universities and plays a vital role in promoting junior golf throughout the country, according to officials.
Playing on the nationally accredited tour provides juniors an opportunity to gain nationwide exposure through multiple ranking systems, including the National Junior Golf Scoreboard (NJGS), the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), and the Golfweek/Titleist Performance Index, among others.
The tour, guided by executive director Mario Conte, has developed into a national-elite opportunity for junior golfers at a competitive level at top venues.
“My passion, integrity and love for the game have allowed me to develop a first-class operation,” Conte said. “The opportunity to be an exclusive member of the HJGT will provide a unique experience for all aspiring junior golfers. Our schedule this year offers some of the top courses in the country, and we always strive to make the experience as memorable as possible.”
The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour was founded in 2008 with the intention of providing junior golfers between the ages of 11-18 an opportunity to play exceptional courses in a competitive environment.
Golfers who participate on the tour compete in one of four age divisions: boys 15-18, boys 11-14, girls 11-14, and girls 15-18.
Based out of Jacksonville, Fla., the HJGT administers events all across the nation, with stops in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Ohio.
