Pinehurst residents are the target of phone scammers allegedly selling security systems, said Deputy Chief Floyd Thomas of the Pinehurst police

Police say the scammers are telling residents that there have been break-ins in their neighborhood and they should look into getting a security system.Thomas said the callers are not representatives of the police, no break-ins have occurred, and that the call is a scam. Police have tracked the call back to a shared exchange in the Dominican Republic.

Good to see that the PD is using the R911 system in a meaningful manner. Now if the village admin. would just use it for National Weather Service severe storm warnings.

Wrt the current scam, it's too bad that no one picked up on the current roofing scam before the 100's of roofs had been unnecessarily replaced.

Love those kind of calls: Hello ~ who is speaking? "don't move the body", and you were saying?

Break-ins? Do you work for a security company? "Wait for the corner!"

What is your name and where are you calling from? "You are now a suspect in this murder investigation." Don't you hang up ~ I have an investigator waiting to speak with you about this homocide! "We think a security company is trying to sell their equipment to gain access to residents' homes; " you are on our contact list as of now"!

You are ordered to present yourself to the Chief of Police in Pinehurst no later than 2 PM tomorrow or a warrant for your arrest will be issued. Do you understand?
