On Thursday, Dec. 6, approximately 90 members and guests of the Linden Garden Club of Pinewild gathered in the St. Andrew's Room of the Pinehurst Country Club for a holiday luncheon.

President Kathryn Talton greeted members and guests with a short verse in keeping with the holidays and thanked members who served as hostesses at the Weymouth Christmas House.

Entertainment was provided by The Four Corders, a female quartet which is part of the Carolina Harmony Chorus in Raleigh. The Harmony Chorus recently won first place among the small choruses at an international competition in Denver. They are Kay Cormier, of Pinehurst; Annette Jasper, of Cary; Sue Sikes, of Beacon Ridge; and Vicki Martin, of Wake Forest.

Following lunch, the club's annual holiday basket raffle was conducted by Pat Keffer, raffle basket chair, with all proceeds going to the club's annual scholarship to a horticultural or landscape student at the Sandhills Community College. There were 26 baskets and all items in the raffle were donated by club members. Last year's scholarship recipient was Joshua Stoeltzing, of Roan Mountain, Tenn.

The January meeting will be held at the Pinewild clubhouse on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. The speaker will be David Pike of Witherspoon Rose Culture, in Durham, who will discuss the various types of roses available at their nursery as well as the proper way to plant and care for them. Members who wish to attend with or without lunch should make a reservation with Janet Farrell no later than Friday, Jan. 11. Lunch cancellations must be received by Sunday, Jan. 13.
