Union Pines advanced six wrestlers to the state 3-A individual championship while grabbing a third-place finish Saturday in the Mideast 3-A Regional tournament held at Morehead High in Eden.

Vikings Ryan Hull, Mike Fedowitz and Paul Ambrose claimed regional titles, while Ian Burch and Samuel Bartram grabbed third-place finishes and Dylan Barber a fourth.

In the team competition, Union Pines finished with 142.5 points, finishing behind Orange 228.5 and Morehead 158.5.

Hull, senior, claimed his title at 132 pounds, Fedowitz, a junior, at 113, and Ambrose, a junior, his championship at 120.

Burch, a senior, finished third at 160 pounds, while Bartram, a sophomore, earned his third at 126.

Barber, a freshman, finished fourth at 106 pounds.

Those six wrestlers will compete in the three-day state 3-A championship that begins Thursday at Greensboro Coliseum.
