Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department is teaming up with Weymouth Woods and Lowe's Home Improvement to bring the fun outdoors on March 16 at 10 a.m. at Weymouth Woods with its "Birds in the Sandhills" program.

A brief narrative about birds will kick off the event before hiking, bird watching and constructing birdhouses for youth to take home.

The program is free for all ages.

"Last year's program was a huge success, and the only change we noted was to remind all participants to bring their own hammer and/or portable battery screwdriver," says a spokesman. "Youth will need a helping hand from parents."
