Vikes End Season With Loss to Jags

The Union Pines boys basketball team closed its season Tuesday with a 91-71 loss to the Overhills Jaguars in Spring Lake.
Through three quarters of action the visiting Vikings trailed 72-42 in the opening-round 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference tournament tilt.
With the tournament loss, sixth-seeded Union Pines closed its season with a record of 5-20 overall and a 1-11 mark in league play.
Senior Vike captain Matthew Maness led Union Pines in scoring on the night with 19. The 5-foot-9 three-ball specialist closed the season with 98 made three-point field goals. Junior forward Darin Carlyle scored 15 for the Vikings.
Overhills (17-8), the CFVC tournament third seed, was paced by a 22-point performance from junior guard Jared Foster. Josh Mason (11) GregBoyd (11) and Dexter McRae (10) also finished in double-figure scoring for the winning Jaguars.
Westover defeated Overhills 53-47 Friday in the finals of the conference tournament.
