Five Area Basketball Teams Earn Bids to State Tourney

The Pinecrest girls basketball team is the lone area team among five qualifiers to host a first round game in the state basketball playoffs this year.
The Lady Patriots (16-9) are a No. 8 seed in the 4-A Mideast bracket and will host No. 9 seed Apex High School (16-10).
Four other county teams advanced to NCHSAA state playoffs and all will be on the road.
Pinecrest boys (14-9) are seeded ninth and will play No. 8 seed Apex Middle Creek (18-8). The Union Pines girls (are seeded No. 14 in the 3-A Mideast bracket. They will play conference foe and third-seeded Overhills (17-6).
The North Moore boys (14-11) are a No. 9 seed in the 1-A Midwest bracket. They will take on Monroe Central Academy (9-15), the No. 8 seed. And the North Moore girls (13-11) are seeded 14th in the 1-A Midwest bracket and will play third-seeded Lake Norman Charter (20-5).
Games are at 7 p.m., unless the higher seed is hosting a boys and a girls game. First round action begins Monday.
