An unidentified 2-year-old boy died Thursday from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle wreck Thursday morning on Star Ridge Road outside Carthage, according to the State Highway Patrol.
Two other children - ages 4 and 6 - are in critical condition at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, representatives from the patrol said Thursday afternoon.
Two others in the car, a 19-year-old male driver and his 12-year-old sister, were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional, where they were treated and released.
No charges have been filed.
Troopers are still investigating the incident. They have not released the names of the individuals, who are believed to be related.
The accident happened at 6:57 a.m. when a Chevy SUV drove off the road, hit a ditch, flipped multiple times, and ejected two of the children, according to information provided by the Highway Patrol.
Three helicopters transported the three younger children to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
