A chevy SUV with five people inside wrecked today on Star Ridge Road. Four children in the vehicle were taken to the hospital.

A unidentified two-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered in a one vehicle wreck this morning on Star Ridge Road, Carthage, according to the state highway patrol.

Two of the deceased boy's siblings -- ages 4 and 6 -- are in critical condition at UNC Hospital Chapel Hill, representatives from the highway patrol said this afternoon.

Two others in the car, the 19-year-old male driver and his 12-year-old sister, were transported to First Health Moore Regional where they were treated and released.

No charges have been filed.

Troopers are still investigating the incident. They have not released the names of the individuals, who are cousins.

The accident happened at 6:57 a.m. when a Chevy SUV drove off the road, hit a ditch, flipped multiple times, and ejected two of the children, according to information provided by the Highway Patrol.

Three helicopters transported the three younger children to UNC Hospital Chapel Hill.

I certainly hope for everyone's sake that the children are okay. I am going to guess speed, inattention and lack of experience all played a role here. It breaks my heart to see things like this.

"Fightfirewithfire" The car had a tire blow out...this had nothing to do with speed and inexperience. I found this information at WRAL.com. I am sure it was announced later. This a a tragic accident and I pray for all the family involved. I cannot imagine how horrible this must be for all of them, especially the young man driving...

Krazi...the "driver said" he had a blowout...my understanding is that he also said he was going about forty five. I would guess that from the first impact with the ditch bank to where he ended up was at least a hundred and fifty feet...with the only contact with the ground when the car was flipping. I would suggest waiting for the final story before making a statement about speed and inexperience.
