Sporadic shortages of both the flu vaccine and the flu treatment Tamiflu are being reported, across the nation and in North Carolina specifically.

This season's flu outbreak is one of the most intense and widespread on record, and millions of Americans are still looking for protection from the virus.

Reports of widespread spot shortages of the vaccine are beginning to worry some consumers, who have reported that their local pharmacy provider is not able to offer the immunization due to lack of vaccine, according to a news release from Raleigh-based Kerr Drug.

However, Kerr Drug has sufficient vaccine supply to provide customers and any others with a flu shot, the release said.

"We anticipated a serious influenza season and prepared with a sufficient supply of the vaccine to get through the immunization period well-stocked," said Ralph Petri, executive vice president of pharmacy. "Customers can come into any Kerr Drug store in North Carolina and be assured of receiving their immunization.

"In addition to the flu shot, we can also provide consumers with a pneumonia or shingles immunization."
