So several local municipalities donated money for this despite the low % of the population that actually is interested, and now for those that are interested.....the tickets are free?? Is this a joke?

Time was when uneducated people craved good schools and cultural and artistic opportunity for themselves and their posterity. What a wonderful example this is of a bond between China and North Carolina -- forged in the ties of battle by the loss of a young Flying Tiger pilot from High Falls. Time now not to mock, Ron, but to cheer. Get a ticket and go.

Well said, John.

Only 150 or so tickets left (out of 1300) when I got mine on Monday!

Using public funds to build and maintain venues for "cultural and artistic opportunities" is a good idea. Using public funds to secure the artists and not charge the attendees is simply a terrible thing to do, and a terrible precedent to set.
