Town Creek Indian Mound will host "A Stitch in Pine: Pine Needle Basket Workshop" on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn how to make pine needle baskets using the coiling technique and take supplies home to complete their work.

Pre-Columbian American Indians in the southeast were among the first people to create coiled basketry. These baskets were used for storage and gathering as well as for cooking.

The workshop is appropriate for ages 13 and up. The $15 fee includes project materials. Class size is limited, and preregistration is required.

Contact the site at (910) 439-6802 or towncreek @ncdcr.gov to register.

The historic site is located at 509 Town Creek Mound Road, Mount Gilead.
