Pinecrest Wrestlers Topple Raiders

The Pinecrest wrestling team is still riding atop the Southeastern Conference standings with an undefeated mark. Richmond High was the latest Patriot victim, falling 66-12 to visiting Pinecrest last Wednesday.
The win moved the Patriots conference record in dual matches to 4-0. Next up for Pinecrest comes tonight, when Hoke County comes to Pinecrest for a senior night matchup.
The Patriots recorded nine pins and two wins by decisions to grab 66 points against the Raiders. The only Richmond points came on a forfeit at 106 pounds and a pin win at 120 pounds.
Patriot sophomore Irvin Enriquez (31-2 overall record) pinned Gary Blue at 113 in 53 seconds, sophomore Dakotah Nelson (13-10) pinned Ben Hudson at 126 in 4:36, and sophomore Seth Horney (2-0) pinned Dominique Everette at 132 in 56 seconds to get the ball rolling for the Patriots against the Raiders.
The Patriot pin whirlwind continued with junior Dallas Roemer (30-2) pinning Sean Thompson at 138 in 1:20, senior Mario Contreras (21-6) pinning Devontae Watkins at 145 in 36 seconds, and senior Sawyer Bateman (21-13) pinning Chris Covington at 152 in 57 seconds.
Patriot junior Rider Excell (25-7) pinned Dalton Faurot at 160 in 51 seconds, senior Jonah Caliri (19-4) pinned Luke Sonder at 170 in 1:12, senior Luke Fetla (23-0) pinned Shaheim Weeks at 220 in 1:30, and junior James Halligan (9-4) pinned David Watkins at 285 in 1:28.
At 182 pounds, Patriot senior Ryan McGuire (25-6) won a 7-0 decision over Jacob Staub, and at 195, junior Bryson Thomas (15-6) won a 7-2 decision over Dieon Davis.
After tonight’s match against Hoke, the Patriots move into postseason competition with the Southeastern Conference tournament on Saturday.
