The Pinecrest boys freshmen basketball team (5-4) avenged an earlier loss by defeating Purnell Swett 51-43 at home on Thursday.
The Patriots reduced an 11-point second quarter deficit to one going into the final period.
Joey Oldroyd and Maliek Stanford sparked the rally with their scoring and aggressive defense.
The inside play of Jadan Thomas and Nick Williamson, and some clutch free throw shooting by Will Lassiter, helped the home team get over the top in the fourth quarter.
The scoring leaders in the Pats’ fourth come-from-behind conference win were Thomas 13, Lassiter 12, Williamson 10 and Stanford six.
Turnovers plagued coach Steve Lassiter’s team in a 58-40 loss at Scotland on Monday. The leading scorers in that one were Mishak McRae seven, Thomas six and Bobby McLaughlin and Layton Barber five each.
The next home date is on Monday against a strong Richmond squad, beginning with the freshmen girls game at 4:30 p.m.
