Whispering Pines: The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 30 in a “guilt free” event. The format was two best balls of the foursome: Dick Price, Pat Lynch, Bill Hobbs, Chris Reitler, 113; Junior Jones, George Venet, Phil Guzzo, Stafford Thornton, 121; Dick Hammond, Tommy Nacca, Pat O’Malley and Larry Pierce, tied at 122, with Jerry Leary, Tom Harp, Bob Fetters and Glenn Bernhard.

Longleaf: The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 30 in a “winter insanity” scramble where each player teed off from the No. 1 hole to play to the No. 2 green. The modified course included a half-mile-long hole that played to a par 8.

Team A – Fritz Baukhages, Dennis Crook, George Ryan and Fred Schrank. Team B – Gary Carroll, Bob Daoust, Ted Gleason and Jim Walker. Team C – Dave Andinolfi, Lee Moore, Kevin Rowland and William Todd.

The Longleaf Ladies played Jan. 31 in a game where only holes beginning with the letters F and T were needed for scoring. Christine Carter won with 34, and Ann Baukages was second with 35.

Knollwood: The Sandblasters played Jan. 29 in an individual by flight tournament. Flight 1 – Art Gula, 32; Ron Flock, 34; Bill Crenson, 34. Flight 2 – Ralph Lien, 34; Jim Burrill, 36; John Mannion, 37. Flight 3 – Joe Alden, 33; Doug Toler, 36; Bob Mellinger, 36. Flight 4 – Derrick, 28; Hil Colwell, 34; Len Grasso, 37.

Art Gula won low gross at 38 and Derrick North won low net at 28. Bob Mellinger won closest to the pin.

Midland: The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 30 in two nine-hole scramble events. Winners of the first competition with a 35 were Art Gula, Ted Meyer and Dick Baird. The second competition was won by Vic Kendall, John Mannion and Phil Colwell with 38.

Pinehurst: The Women’s Golf Association played Jan. 31 on Course No. 4, in foursomes, and the format was two best balls on holes one, four, five, 14 and 15. One best ball was needed on all other holes. First: Silvia Bisbe, Carol Hannah, Nancy Jones, Mary Ann Rowe, 77. Second: Tonya Brown, Roe Lyons, Pat Milligan, Elizabeth Strachan, 79 (MOC). Third: Laurie Allie, Myrna Floyd, Joyce McWane, Thersia Noggle, 79 (MOC).

The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 15 in a Nassau tournament, in a two best balls of the foursome format. Competition was on Course No. 1. Overall: Ray Bowles, Nicholas Esposito, Roger Saylor, Gerald Casinella, 121; Douglas Adams, Phil Reaper, Dennis McCann, Robert Van Laningham, 122 (MOC); James Lucey, Sterling Stetson, Paul Hoban, Bruce Monteith, 122 (MOC).

Front nine: Stanley Peterson, Ron Sundstrom, Bob Kadarauch, Richard Smetana, 56; Bob Hilsby, Jack Quick, Jerry Kolster, Murray Williamson, 58.

Back nine – Ernie Ferrell, Dunton Wyatt, Dave Kinney, Garry Walsh, 62. Al Barrick, William Norris, Robert Dauenhauer, Charles Oxrieder, 64.

The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 16 in a Nassau tournament with two best balls needed on par-4 holes and one best ball needed on par-3 and par-5 holes. Competition was on Course No. 1. Overall: Edward Carey, Vince Gamble, John Wittenstrom, Kenneth Boyle, 105 (MOC).

Front nine: Paul Locklear, Mark McFarland, Charles Bradbury, Steve Mager, 53.

Back nine: Aly Badawy, Tony Inman, Joe Pizzi, Jerry Ullmann, 47.

The Men’s Golf Association played Jan. 22 on Course No. 3 in a Nassau tournament. The format was two best balls on par 4 holes and one best ball on par-3 and par-5 holes. Overall: Jerry Phillips, Phil Reaper, Douglas Adams, Robert Van Laningham, 109.

Front nine: Ray Bowles, Larry Phillips, Gerald Casinella, Roger Saylor, 57.

Back nine: Mike McKitrick, Murray Williamson, Howard Milligan, 52.

The Birdies played Jan. 28 in an “odd fellows” game. One best ball of the foursome, with one par 3, par 4 and par 5 thrown out at completion of play. First – Mickey Scarborough, Sue Ferretti, Carol Hannah and Francine Smarrelli, 44. Second – Barbara McKitrick, Joan Sponik, Donna Tanner, Anna Vigilis, 45. Sue Griggs, Joyce McWane, M. J. White, Janice Kaczmarek, 50.

The Silver Foils played Jan. 28 in a one best ball of the foursome contest, with two holes thrown out at the completion of play: Joyce Harter, Elsie Jasinski, Courtney Herndon, Ruth Ertel, 50; Ro Kachel, Ann Nash, Rhonda Brooks, Jacque Weston, 51; Karol Collins, Joyce McWane, Estelle Menke, Sandy Smith, 52.

The Chippers played Jan. 30 in a game called minus “two secret holes.” First – Kathy Spangler, 27. Second – Beverly Beshore, 29 (MOC); Mary Claire Barry, 29 (MOC).
