The ninth annual Sandhills Camellia Show, sponsored by the Sandhills Camellia Society, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Pinehurst Village Hall, 395 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst.
Members of the Sandhills Camellia Society and members of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be in place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Village Hall to register and prepare blooms for show entry.
"We encourage professional growers, novice gardeners, camellia enthusiasts and children around the region to enter their camellia blooms," says the spokesman. "If you are new to competing in these shows, do not be daunted by the entry process. Our volunteers will be there to help everyone who wants to enter their blooms. We'll help you prepare your entry, fill out entry forms, and identify your bloom, if necessary."
From noon to 4 p.m., the public will be able to come and view the show at no charge.
A number of varieties of camellia plants will be sold for $22, and dwarf camellias for $25 to benefit the Sandhills Camellia Society's educational programs and community beautification efforts, including a scholarship for a student in the horticultural program at Sandhills.
"We will have white, yellow, red and pink camellias," says the spokesman. "This is a chance for you to see high quality camellia plants in one setting and pick out the one you find most beautiful to take home with you. You can preorder a camellia plant by calling (910) 295-4572.
