Bill Doerr still has a bit of the captain in him when it comes to his former teams.
Although he directed the 12 consecutive state championship teams, he says it’s all about the players.
“It’s important to show honor to those players,” he says. “They are the ones that made it happen. They need to be recognized. It wasn’t like one group staying together all those years, there was a great deal of turnover. There were 48 different players on those 12 teams. It’s important to recognize those players.”
And then he produced a list of the 48 players that played on those teams and here they are:
Burgin Beale; Bob Bambauer; Lee Barton; Jimmy Bland; Willie Campbell; Julian Carr; Jim Clark; Gene Clayton; Rick Denker; Joe Dudley; Cliff Durkee; Harry Fekkes; David Funderburg; Tom Gallagher; Ron Gee;
Ed Ghiazza; Al Griffin; Jim Halstead; Gordon Hammes; Horace Hayworth; Lynn Hyre; Charlie Kerr; Julian King; David Klauder; John Lamb; Ron Liveris; Wilson McWilliams; Bob Minick; Roger Mitchel; John Neal; Charlie Oliver; Charlie Oxreider; Wayne Pensenstadler; Ron Polisoto; Bill Revenau;
Andy Robinson; Ray Rosinski; Bill Schanilec; Bill Sledge; John Sheridan; Rocco Simone; Bob Stanik; Bill Wall; Tom Watson; Jerry Huckabee, Paul Kirst; Bill Weathers; and, of course, Bill Doerr.
