The Moore County Sheriff's Office will provide a new online gun permit application process starting Monday, Oct. 1, said Sheriff Lane Carter.
The initiative is part of the department's ongoing effort to update processes and provide better customer service to residents. The new system will offer an online order and payment system to purchase gun permits.
The new system provides the following features to those applying for gun permits:
Applicants can now pay for gun permits online using all major credit cards. An additional $3 convenience fee will be charged for the online application.
If the applicant wants to pay by cash, check or money order, they can present the cash and money order in person at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office in Carthage between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
A computer has been set up in the sheriff’s office reception area to collect online applications to allow those who wish to pay by cash or money order to do so in person.
Applicants will be notified of the receipt of the online application, the need for additional documentation and the issuance or denial of the permit via automated emails.
All orders will be given an unique order number to help with reference and tracking.
Applicants can log into the Sheriff’s website https://mooreso.permitium.com/ and check the status of their order using their order number, email address and password (created by the applicant during the application process).
Once the application is approved, the applicant must present his/her North Carolina driver's license or Identification with matching name and address to the application in person at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday. In order to apply for a gun permit on-line, the applicant should access the sheriff’s gun permit website: https://mooreso.permitium.com/
The hope is that new system will streamline the permit process and reduce the public’s need to place follow-up phone calls and travel to the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with questions or comments about the new system, can contact the sheriff’s office at 910-947-2931 or email at: Sheriff@moorecountync.gov.

How is the Sheriff going to issue a gun toting permit over a computer, see your other forms of ID, take your fingerprints, buy and feed you lunch and wash your dirty laundry all at the same time from an internet connection??? WOW, what a mouthfull! Just kidding. I'm sure I have missed something in the story I do not have time to re-read at this moment of my life...

The part you missed is that this is for handgun purchasing permits, not concealed carry "toting"permits. Also;Once the application is approved, the applicant must present his/her North Carolina driver's license or Identification with matching name and address to the application in person at the Moore County Sheriff’s Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday. In order to apply for a gun permit on-line, the applicant should access the sheriff’s gun permit website: https://mooreso.permitium.com

Why should they have to produce a photo ID for a gun? You don't have to to vote for the President!

There are a number of reasons that l do not live in NC anymore, and this is one. Thankfully in other states, one does not have to show any thing to purchase a gun, provided you are of age. Secondly, we do not have a concealled carry permit needed here. That is more in line with the Constitution. If one is law abiding, they should be able to own ANY firearm, right up to a howitzer if that is their choosing. Criminals will have their guns, without fail. The only people that are "regulated" by these rules are law abiding folks. Do you think felons will try and go down to the sheriff's dept to get their permit?? Exactly, we all know they won't.

Mark106 I agree with you, a vote is just as powerful as a gun.

Unless that one gun is a howitzer, then I'd say howitzer is more powerful.

I tend to agree with YukonJohn. I think we are so busy trying to police people, we are policing the wrong damn ones......

This is just for a pistol/handgun purchase permit. You can still buy as many rifles or shotguns or ammo as you want without a permit.
