The North Moore boys’ soccer team picked up its third shutout of the season at Yadkin Valley Conference foe South Stanly Monday.

With the 7-0 shutout, the Mustangs keep pace with fifth-ranked East Montgomery in the league standings. North Moore is currently 4-0-1 in conference action and 5-3-1 overall, while the Eagles are 5-0-1 in league play and 8-2-2 overall. The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie earlier this season.

The Mustangs were ranked 13th in the previous week’s state 1-A polls, but fell out of the top 15 with a couple of nonconference losses to 2-A West Davidson and 3-A Southern Lee.

North Moore took a 3-0 lead in the first half over winless South Stanly and then added four more goals in the second half for their seven-goal total.

The Mustangs had two players score a pair of goals each, with junior Edgar Catalan and freshman Eddie Garcia finding the back of the net twice.

Also adding one goal each were juniors Alejandro Mendoza, Julio Parra and senior captain Oliver Castrejon scoring one goal each. Mendoza also had a pair of assists for the Mustangs.

Catalan and sophomore Danny Garcia split time as the Mustangs’ goalkeeper.

The Mustangs step out of conference action Wednesday when they host cross-county rival 3-A Union Pines. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

North Moore gets back into conference action Monday when it entertains South Davidson.
