She Still Needs to Vote

The comments of Mitt Romney last week, critical of the statement issued by the U.S. embassy in Cairo, are yet another example of Mr. Romney’s pandering to the jingoist right wing of the Republican Party.

For starters, the embassy statement was issued before the subsequent attack on the embassy and before the likely unrelated attack on the embassy in Libya.

Second, the embassy statement was not an apology for “American values,” but rather an attempt to disavow pure hatred, which was the only purpose of the infamous video clip that caused the outrage.

You would think that Mr. Romney, a member of a religious movement that many view as a cult (Mormonism), would be a little more sensitive to hateful attacks on religion.

This not-so-thoughtful performance by Romney taught us little about our values, but quite a bit about the candidate’s lack of judgment.

Well said sir. I'm sure Mr. Romney wouldn't want a movie dennigrating Joseph Smith to be put out in Salt Lake City.

If Romney's comments are a view into his "lack of judgment", what does the 0bama administration's flat out bumbling of the whole thing tell us about 0bama, the world's smartest man and Hilary Clinton, the world's smartest woman.

Three years after 0bama's Cairo speech, the one that was supposed to change everything, we have never been more hated and more at risk in the Middle East than we are right now.

It was laughable back when 0bama said that his administration's foreign policy would be "smarter". Not so funny now that people are dying.

DaveyNC, people are dying because we don't respect each others right to be different. The great American patriot who produced and distributed his ignorant hate in the form of a video meant to incite, along with all who either support his actions or make excuses why his actions were acceptable under his first amendment rights are responsible for people dying. When you walk up to a bees nest and start whacking it with a stick because, by god, you are an American, a being superior to the bee and someone who has every right to whack that bee hive, then get stung and want to blame the bees, you are nothing more than an idiot. The Obama administration cannot make much progress when we have such loyal Americans patriots inciting the very people we are trying to find ways to get along with.

JimRussell, the notion that that video started this is laughable. That's a smokescreen. We can look forward to attacks like this every year around 9/11. It is the height of incompetence to not understand that and be prepared for it.

And now it turns out that 0bama did, indeed, get that 3 am call. His response? He went back to sleep, not knowing the disposition of Ambassador Stevens and his staff.

And here in the US, we allow stupid movies like that to be made. There is no need to protect popular speech, the first amendment is there to protect the unpopular stuff. By your definition, Christians need to form a mob right now and go after Bill Maher for his idiotic movie, "Religulous".

I agree DaveyNC. That video is a convenient excuse to riot in the name of Islam. Apparently the Muslims in this country did not get the "LET'S RIOT" memo. They must understand the importance of free speech. Radical Muslims simply do not want any Western influence in their country, with the exception of our foreign aid checks.

The notion that you dismiss the video as a cause is even more laughable, DaveyNC. I guess the fact that Muslims are willing to blow themselves up in defense of their beliefs doesn't make it clear enough to you that they take their religion a lot more seriously than you take yours. Maybe you have lost sight of the fact that we are in their countries attempting to convert them to our way of thinking through the use of missionaries and military. Maybe you just ignore the fact that all we really want is to beat them back into the 10th century so we can have their natural resources to power our 80 inch plasmas. And we do all this under the guise of 'PROTECTING OUR FREEDOMS'.

Question Mr. Russell. How tolerant are you or these animals of this person's right to his views? Those who are rioting are the most intolerant people on our planet and they are your President's best friends. Do you believe we should ban freedom of expression just because it might offend someone? I was offended by your statements, should we ban your views? Who decides? There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for these animals to EVER attack our embassies Mr. Russell. You my friend............ are a Moron.

Again if u think a video caused this then you are just that ignorant. Future president romney stood up for us last week when current president obama did not. Plain amd simple.

JimRussell, the administration has now, grudgingly, reluctantly and only in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary admitted that that ridiculous video had nothing to do with the 20+ embassy attacks that "Smarter Diplomacy" has produced. See here: http://goo.gl/l9dBf

And we're not in Libya at all, but to the extent that we are engaged in events in Libya it is in support of the rebel factions that were formed to overthrow Khaddafi, yet another example of "Smarter Diplomacy" at work. How's that working out for us?

I think in 0bama we are seeing the Dunning-Kruger effect in full display for all the world to see. And take advantage of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%...

It no longer shocks me how the left falls all over themselves making excuses for barbarism, making excuses for the bumbling and incompetence of this administration. Days after it was widely reported to be a terrorist act (by the president of Libya no less) the administrations talking heads were on national tv blaming it on the video. Its ok if they want to play stupid, just don't expect the rest of us to play along.

Yes, and we know what a smoldering powder keg Mormonism is.

bufordsplay, rights come with responsibility. Morons are those that don't agree with that statement.

0

bufordsplay 8 months ago

So you are defining responsible speech as speech that does not offend anyone? And if it does then violence is justified and the irresponsible speaker should be punished? What country do you live in? You are talking about people who abuse women and commit violance against anyone who does not agree with THEM. Again...moronic.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re going to punish our enemies and we’re going to reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s going to be harder.”

This was President Obama back in 2010. Is this not speech which purpose is to incite possible violence against the enemy also know as Republicans.

And how about Vice President's remarks about the comparison of tea party negotiators to terrorists during the debt-limit crisis? The ememy to this present adminstration appears to be the American People that do not toe the line ".rights come with responsibility" What a joke.

It's all to keep power in their own countries. Their leadership stirs up their base into an anti-Western angry mob. Leadership can then control the people's perspective (everything is monitored and edited by the state) by telling them that this video, piece of art, book or action is sponsored by the US government. Why? Because all their broadcasting is state produced, the people have no concept of a media not under government control.

It's not as much the people hating us as it is their leaders manipulating events to keep a power hold.

This letter is one of the worst I've seen on this website, and that's saying something!

First, mormans are NOT a "religious movement", nor are mormans "viewed by many as a cult"; this is a well established and defined religion. If its not the one you believe in, than fine - but only a real lowlife would slam someone else's PERSONAL belief system in this country.

Second, Mr. Romney did exactly what a president was supposed to do! He condemned a TERRORIST ATTACK on one of our embassies, which lead to the death of four Americans - including our ambassador and two CIA agents!!!

Last time I checked, here in the USA, we have something known as free speech, which includes posted a video on the internet making fun of Muslims if one so chooses to do so!

The president should NOT come out apologizing, yet again, for the choices of what Americans choose to do - I don't believe I've seen him apologize for lefties burning flags or illegally squatting in public parks has he? Freedom of speech goes both ways!

First, mormans (mormons) are NOT a "religious movement"(then what do you call a religious sect trying to gain support?), nor are mormans (mormons) "viewed by many as a cult" (link to them being non Christian and a cult); this is a well established and defined religion (like Scientology). If its not the one you believe in, than (then) fine - but only a real lowlife would slam someone else's PERSONAL belief system in this country (except if they are atheist and going to hell or believe in the tentacle wonder of the Spaghetti Monster).

Fun excerpts:

The Deity of Jesus Christ is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity, yet the Mormons deny this truth. Exalting man to "god status" is apparently alright, but Jesus Christ is not acknowledged as the eternal Son of God in the Mormon church. The Mormon Jesus was a preexisting spirit who was exalted, just as Mormon followers hope to be exalted someday.

Mormons teach that man can become God, and that God was once a man:

"God himself, the Father of us all, is a glorified, exalted immortal resurrected man!" (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 322-23, 517, 643) "...God himself was once as we are now and is an exalted man and sits enthroned in yonder heavens..." (Journal of Discourses, V6, P3, 1844) "As man is, God once was: as God is, man may become." (Lorenzo Snow, quoted in Milton R. Hunter, the Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 105-106)

This is plain and simple heresy. Nowhere does the Bible say or imply that God was ever a man, or that man can become God.

Well at least we now know that JD is an unapologetic bigot to those who don't believe in his personal sky god; I'm curious JD, are you also racist? Sexist? Homophobic? Or do you simply hate and dispise those Americans who dare express their freedom of religion, if of course their views don't match your own?
