About Obama Letters

I notice two things about anti-Obama letters to the editor: They are long-winded diatribes that sound a lot alike, and they never mention all the supposed good things about a Romney presidency.

Ok, reasons to elect Mitt Romney:

Good family man

Successful businessman

Right set of skills for what we need right now

Worked successfully in a bipartisan way (I know you lefties are all about the bipartisanship)

Highly educated. In fact, better educated than our current President.

Has actually held a job outside of government for more than a year. Never regarded that as being "behind enemy lines."

Never been a practicing lawyer (Have you ever noticed that D's tend to be lawyers (0bama, Clinton) and R's tend to come from more varied backgrounds?(Romney, both Bushes, Reagan))

Energetic, earnest, decisive man.

Has a detailed plan for what he wants to do.

Gives heavily to his church and to charity

Good hair

I could keep going.

DaveyNC left out the most important, crucial reason to elect Romney, the reason that 95% of those who will be voting for Romney are casting their vote: HE IS NOT OBAMA. All the other stuff they just throw in to make themselves seem like they spent a lot of time thinking.

0

LSM 8 months ago

Mr. Russell; You mention the fact of voting for Mitt Romney because he is not Obama, yet you and many others will vote for Obama only because of the D (Democrat) beside of his name and not because of any observed ability. Please give us a list of this current President's triumphs . I will vote for someone that is not a proven failure.

JimRussell44 6 hours, 2 minutes ago ..the reason that 95% of those who will be voting for Romney are casting their vote: HE IS NOT OBAMA ...

How about a source for that ridiculous statement of yours JER. I wish there was a way to know how many of those who do vote for Romney had voted for Obama in 2008. I'll bet plenty and now those same voters will be labelled as racists by you and others. Nothing that he did worked for America JER. He prioritized party line allegience at the sake of most Americans. Why should it work for America the next four years? It won't. Thats plenty enogh reason to vote Romney / Paul this time around.

Empty suit, empty chair, continued empty promises...It's alright to let the man go a different way....Mike

Wow, if Obama was so terrible, and Romney so great, and everything was as bad as the right says it is, you'd think Romney would be beating the President handily.

But he's not, except in the imagination of the wingnuts. Even in the most conservative leaning polls, the best he's got is a tie. And, as I've pointed out before, Obama's far enough ahead in enough swing states to put him over the top on the Electoral College.

The data does not support the theory. Not that that makes any difference to wingnuts. After deriding Romney in the primaries as not conservative enough, they've finally decided he's a Real Conservative (he's not); despite the empirical evidence, they've declared him the winner already (he's not). So any data that contradicts this mean's the data's flawed, not the theory.

All of this reminds me of nothing so much as this now-famous blog post from 2008:

Here is how it will go down next week. First, the results from Virginia and North Carolina will come in, and they’ll be declared for McCain. You’ll be disappointed, but “no big deal, change can’t come overnight” will be your comment. Florida will go red, and a little nervousness will creep in. The usual suspects will fall into the usual categories. As the night drags on, Ohio, Colorado, and (much to your horror) Pennsylvania will be too close to call. My advice at this point to you will be to go to bed. You will wake up to a McCain presidency and the Great Liberal Freakout will be on. Bookmark this, liberals, as this is exactly how it is going to go down. You will be wonder how the hell I was able to call this.

How'd that work out for ya?

Dusty I really don't think that the citizens of the United States are so blindingly stupid that they would vote for four more years of the same crap from the same lying incompetent. But I may be wrong, there may be enough of y'all drinking the Kool Aid and voting with the country's interests be damned to put him back in. If that happens I think we will continue our descent into third world status and I happen to think that is a goal of the mighty "o". Those who voted for him will then absolutely deserve whatever happens to them, their children, their grandchildren, etc. You hold the power of numbers to send him back to the White House or send him back to Chicago with his ill gotten gains.

Please give us a list of this current President's triumphs .

25 tax cuts for individuals and small businesses (like mine) passed as part of the stimulus, with no help from the Republican caucus.

Tax credits for first time home buyers.

Stimulus saved us from going into deeper recession or depression.

Affordable Care Act that keeps people from losing insurance if they get sick, keeps individuals from being denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions, and allows me to keep my kids on my insurance through college and up to age 26. It also provided tax breaks to allow 3.5 million small business to provide health insurance to their employees, and 29 million people will receive tax breaks to help them afford health insurance.

Ended Iraq War.

Saved Auto Industry and million of jobs. .

Gave the order to kill bin Laden, something Romney said he wouldn’t do if it meant going into Pakistan.

Signed an Executive Order to Improve Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families

Along with Congressional Democrats, supported and signed Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, which made more money available to enable better medical care for veterans. http://1.usa.gov/fN4ur1

From your pals at Fox News:

President Barack Obama has the edge over Republican Mitt Romney in three potentially decisive states in the presidential election. Obama tops Romney by seven percentage points among likely voters in both Ohio (49-42 percent) and Virginia (50-43 percent). In Florida, the president holds a five-point edge (49-44 percent). Obama’s lead is just outside the poll’s margin of sampling error in Ohio and Virginia, and within the margin of sampling error in Florida.

Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/19/obama-has-edge-over-romney-in-three-battleground-states/#ixzz27Dc1NZDw

If Obama takes Ohio and Virginia, he's wrapped it up, even without Florida. If he takes Florida, Romney's done by 9, maybe 10 PM Eastern.

"they never mention all the supposed good things about a Romney presidency." We've yet to hear anything concrete from Romney. What are his plans? Does he have any? Up to now he has avoided any comments on what he wants to do to help the US but often changes his comments acording to what the current conversation is about. He's really dug himself into a hole and it looks like he won't be able to get out of it by November. It's so disappointing that this was the best the Republicans could come up with.

Bill O'Reilly might be right. Bill Clinton had over 5 million hits on the Internet when he gave his speech at the DNC. Mitt had only 300,000 hits. The GOP is dying both figuratively and literally. You have lost any and all credibility you once might have had. The Republicans in Congress voted down a Veterans Jobs Bill on Friday. THE REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST VETERANS! The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America have denounced them for it. When American Veterans denounce the Republicans then you know they are losers and are going to lose on Nov.6th. No Doubt. The people are smart enough to realize that the Republican "FIX" that's been in since 2008, when President Obama won has, been deliberate and destructive to the average American. In my opinion it's been treasonous.

OK, I realize this is a minor issue, but I've been thinking...does anyone realize that if Romney becomes President (shudder), he will be the only President in history who is a member of an exclusive sect of Christianity, and non-Mormon Americans will be forbidden to worship with him in the Temple? Mormons have bishops who declare them to be "clean" and non-Mormons to be "unclean" and therefore, not worthy of entering the Temple.
So, not only does the 47% get written off, but so does the non-Mormon population of America. Hmmmmm....Haven't all of the past Presidents attended inclusive churches?

GJohn-- Please tell us what these liberal, left-wing Christians who support Obama realize about Obama's beliefs in Black Liberation Theology? Be specific. Cheers!

0

GJohn 8 months ago

To MikeNC...you and I can walk into Jeremiah Wright's church any time we want to. Not so, for the Mormon Temple. That's exclusivity and I don't think an American President should participate in separating himself from the People.

To Thatcher...Not sure you know what you're talking about. However, if your ancestors had been enslaved, beaten, starved, raped, and had their families ripped apart, you might have some leanings toward Liberation Theology, too. Is that specific enough for you? Cheers!

0

nothingspecial 8 months ago

GJohn that Black Liberation Theology, the way you described it sounds like some exclusivity to me. Are you saying the President's ancestors had that oppression history or was it just some sort of psychic connection for him?

0

GJohn 8 months ago

The exclusivity is that a specific part of the population was excluded from having their God-given rights. I bet you could always eat in restaurants, use water fountains and restrooms whenever you wanted.
However, we digress. Mitt Romney is part of a church that excludes you and me. Period. As a potential President (shiver), I think that's wrong.

0

Thatcher 8 months ago

GJohn-- "To Thatcher...Not sure you know what you're talking about." Based upon your response, it is clear that you do not know what you are talking about. Discussing things that occurred in America 150 years ago (and are still happening today in many countries), has nothing to do with Black Liberation Theology. Please, learn about it, and when it was founded: http://www.acton.org/pub/commentary/2008/04/02/marxist-roots-black-liberation-theology; http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89236116. And learn about its Marxist roots. This theology is rejected by the vast majority of African-American Christians. We need Christ, not Marx. Cheers!

I have heard it said in these discussions that four more years of an Obama administration and this will be a third world country...maybe even worse. I have also seen links and charts and graphs all supporting this sides views and that sides views. Nobody cares what your facts are. In this information age, anyone can find a source that supports ANY position. The information pool is so polluted that everyone suffers, even those who are actually correct about their positions on subjects. I suggest we all stop trying to impress each other with source quotes, it really is an exercise in futility. Instead, do what I did today. Go out and look around at what is going on. I made a trip out of town to visit family members in a large metropolitan city here in North Carolina (it was about a 3 hour drive). We decided to go out to dinner Saturday evening and selected a mid range priced eatery where the average bill for a party of five might be $125.00 plus tip and taxes. The wait was 2 hours. We then traveled a few blocks to a place that seemed to be less crowded. While it was busy, we were immediately seated. A quick view of the menu revealed this to be an upper end establishment where the bill for our party of five could have easily reached $300.00 to $400.00 plus tip and tax. We elected to stay and order basically sandwiches, salads and iced tea. The bill was $145.00 plus tax and tip. As we got up to leave, we noted the places was completly full and a line waiting to get in. Another thing I noted on Friday, advanced orders for the latest electronic communication device exceeded 2 million at a cost of maybe $600.00 each (I really don't know since I'm not involved in this quarterly ritual that everyone seems to be involved in). So are these signs we are about to become cave dwellers soon? With bad times like these, bring on the really bad times.

So now GJohn, I guess the freedom of religion in this country is under question or restrictive to what you what you might qualify for...according to you? I have read a bit on the Mormon Rules and I'll be the first to admit to follow all their commandments makes them a much better person than me. I'm not that good of a person to restrict myself of so much. I admire those who can do so. Everything I see about Romney is first class. I personally do not care what religion he chose. He, his wife and their children worshipped together. On the other hand, Mitt Romney has an experience level in both government and the private sector which includes proven track records of success. He sounds like the right choice of President for me and he chose a running mate in Paul Ryan who can actually add something to the ticket. His track record of success has proven to me that he knows the importance of working with both Democrats and Republicans to move us forward out of this self induced stagnation this administration seems to have created in order to be able to campaign on. His success in both government and business also demonstrates to me that Romney will appoint staff members that also have the capability of actually knowing how to accomplish successes for America. Most importantly I believe that the greater percentage of Americans have similar views about Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Most Americans want our Country fixed. That covers a lot of ground these days. I see Mitt Romney as the candidate who can lead us there...Mike

GJohn, you're completely right about the Mormons and their religion/cult. They really are a cult and not a religion because they've been "around" for less than 200 yrs and have a small number of members. I told this story before but here it is again. In 1974 The Mormons built a "New Temple" in Washington DC (actually Bethesda, MD) and my Mom and her sister went to the "Open House" to "check it out". On their way out, and they were some of the last to visit, they were told that ALL of the carpet in the New Temple would be pulled up and replaced, since it had been "defiled" by all of the Non-Mormons. Oh, and they sold their "Old Church" in Wash. DC to the Unification Church (Moonies) another cult. I am not one of them. Anyway, I guess Non-Mormons are not allowed into the building? Not for sure though. They have a "Visitors Center". What other church has a "Visitors Center?" They are closed and secretive. If you haven't firgured that out by now you never will. Rev Wrights church the "United Church of Christ" has a long history having come from the Lutheran Traditions. MikeNC, you say that most Americans "want America fixed." As in NEUTERED? That's really one way to "FIX THINGS", and everyone will march right in order, speaking only when spoken to. That's a perverse mentality that is what religions, cults, and sects are notorious for since the memberships consist of a lot of sheep. That MikeNC, is the HEART and SOUL of a "Commie/Nazi State" that so many of you guys RAIL AGAINST. It's called hypocricy and lies.

skylinefirepest, actually, it was my son who was taking us out for dinner (he's a Romney/Republican supporter who is actually friends with Romney's son Tag). I insisted we split the check. I prefer hamburgers to a pricey steak anyway. Guess I never got into that "entitlement" mindset that told me to eat overpriced food because "I'm worth it", even when I could afford to do so. It's funny how the right paints the poor as an entitled group, when the wealthy feel just as entitled to live in a world far beyond what they need just because they can.

MikeNC, glad to see that you are using logical thinking to support your views of the Romney/Ryan ticket. Far better than simply hating on Obama. I would like for you to consider the following: There was a time in this country, in my lifetime, where we manufactured much of what we used. Imports were generally limited to some raw materials not abundantly available here. We had rich people who owned the factories and big businesses, we had a strong middle class that owned the smaller businesses as well as those who worked to produce the products we used. There were also a percentage of people who were poor, some due to their own fault, some because they could not fend for themselves. Families took care of their own to a large degree rather than turning to government for subsistence. The vast majority of people were not "rich", only a very small percentage were. Compare that situation to the one we see today. What changed? Here are my lists of things that got us to today. I hardly expect most of you to agree with them, but this is how I see it: 1) After WW11, we were told to seek the "American Dream", where everyone could have everything they ever wanted. 2) We were told that we should make our money work for us by having everyone build wealth through investing in the stock market. 3) In order to have our investments continue to grow and provide us with ever expanding income, we needed to seek new markets. We needed a "global economy". 4) The global economy allowed us to purchase more goods, made offshore, at lower cost to us. 5) American business owners, wanting to continue to provide their investors with growing returns, move our business off shore to bolster bottom lines resulting in loss of jobs, loss of tax base and forcing the need for government to try and pick up the slack. While it was the general population buying into these ideas that got us to today, it was the folks like Mitt Romney that were the facilitators. Turning over your government to them might not be the best idea for all the citizens.

(attributed to "Twister" commenter at Real Clear Politics) ROMNEY: - Valedictorian at BYU (Bachelor of Arts degree in English; he’s not just a numbers guy) - Master’s degree in Business (Harvard, a Baker's scholar: top 5% of business students) - Master’s degree in Law (Harvard, graduated Cum Laude / with Honors, top 1/3) - Earned both master’s degrees (business AND law) at Harvard University simultaneously (Could you do that? I couldn’t.) - Enormously successful in private business and now worth between $200 and $250 million (compare this to Obama and many of Obama's closest advisers who have never had to turn a profit or go hungry, and, no, don't whine about workers Romney let go when taking over a company while at Bain Capital because you'd be forgetting to look at: A) the fact that Bain was INVITED by the companies to have Bain invest in them; there were no “hostile takeovers” by Bain Capital and B) the workers' jobs Romney saved by saving a dying company and C) the jobs he created after those struggling companies were turned around and started to grow again) - Gave away his inheritance in 1998 to start / help fund the “George W. Romney Institute of Public Management” at BYU (his father, George Romney, died in 1995) - As head of the 2002 Winter Olympics (Salt Lake City) turned a potential loss (-$379M shortfall) into one of the few profit-earning Olympic games (+$100M profit) - Donated his entire Olympics salary and severance package ($1.4M) to charity - Put aside partisanship prejudices/trash-talk by successfully campaigning/winning the governor's seat (2003 – 2007) as a Republican in a heavily Democrat-controlled state LONG before Scott Brown - While governor of Massachusetts, at HIS request, served the people of MA at the salary of $1/year (that’s right, ONE DOLLAR)

0

honesty2 8 months ago

cont. - Previous executive leadership experience as a state governor, including Massachusetts' Commander In Chief of state military forces (Yes, a state governor is legally the Commander In Chief of that state's National Guard forces unless those troops are called to active-duty by the President) - Turned Massachusetts' budget from red to black while governor (- $3.0B to +$2.16B; that’s “billion” with a “B”) - Cut taxes 19 times as Massachusetts governor (that’s not a typo, NINETEEN) - As MA governor, developed a plan that would make deadbeats pay for their own health care (you may not like the MA health care law but that's what it's sole purpose was. Still don't like it because of the mandate? Don't move to MA.) (BTW, how would YOU have solved the MA healthcare free-loader problem and how would you have done it with an overwhelmingly Democrat-controlled state legislature like Romney had to work with?) - “Service over self”. Romney endorsed McCain only 2 days after ‘Super Tuesday’ in 2008 when it became obvious McCain was the clear front-runner; America is more important to him than his ego - Volunteer service to community as a church head pastor for 13 years all with ZERO pay (that's right, none) - Would give ALL his Presidential salary ($1.6 million total) back to the American taxpayers if elected (yes, he's on record as committing to this) - Voluntarily turned down enrolling in Medicare when he turned 65 on March 12, 2012 (in other words, he’s NOT sucking up our precious tax dollars because he knows he can, and therefore should, take care of himself) - He also chose to NOT receive any Social Security payments upon turning 65 because, again, he knows he can take care of himself and therefore should not rely on our tax dollars to help fund his daily living - Looks, talks and acts "Presidential" - Understands commitment (never divorced, in a loving 43 year marriage) - Understands morality (never had an affair) - Understands family (5 kids, all successful adults) - Willing to let all of America see his birth certificate without a fight - Released his most recent filed tax records (2010) proving he’s not a tax cheat (the IRS has no problem with his filed taxes), with more tax records (2011) promised to be released before the election - He’s pledged (repeatedly) that he’ll repeal Obamacare.

Why was GWB not invited to the convention? Instead they get the guy that lost to Obama. That horrible, horrible socialist. But wait Romney lost to the guy who lost to Obama? So how does that make Romney better?

Republicans need a change and to take a stand against the oligarchs in our party. Vote Gary Johnson.
