Aberdeen wants to know if its residents would like a town swimming pool, gymnasium, an outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, a dog park, more walking trails, bike lanes and paths, a disc golf course, soccer fields or baseball fields.
The Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to attend a public hearing on the comprehensive plan for parks, recreation programs, special events, greenways and open space at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Aberdeen Recreation Station at Aberdeen Lake Park.
The purpose of the meeting is to receive comments from residents about their needs and wishes for parks and recreational opportunities in Aberdeen.
The meeting is part of the process used by Site Solutions, the company hired by the town to prepare the plan. Site Solutions has completed an inventory of existing facilities and analysis of community standards.
This information will be available during the meeting. Derek Williams, of Site Solutions, will answer questions about this information and the process of developing a comprehensive parks plan.
For additional information or to express comments, residents can contact Parks and Recreation Director Leigh Baggs at (910) 944-7275 or lbaggs@townofaberdeen.net.

Yes, yes! ...especially the pool, dog park, walking trails, etc. Although we might not be living here that much longer because my husband is already at his next duty station while we wait for our house to sell, it is soooo wrong that when we have to go to Southern Pines or other surrounding towns that we have to pay a "non-resident" fee, which is usually TWICE that of the resident fee. I really do hope that they approve and get the funds for the above-mentioned. It can only do good for this community!
