Kevin Maurer Returns to The Country Bookshop
Kevin Maurer will be returning to The Country Bookshop, in Southern Pines, on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. to discuss his new book, "Gentlemen Bastards: On the Ground in Afghanistan with America's Elite Special Forces."
The book explores the inner workings of the Green Berets and Special Forces units operating in Afghanistan, examining their changing "identity and role as a fighting force" in the midst of modern warfare.
Maurer "traveled with a Special Forces team in Afghanistan, finding out firsthand the inside story of the lives of this elite group of highly trained soldiers," providing powerful insight into a legendary unit of soldiers.
Maurer, formerly a reporter with The Fayetteville Observer, has covered special operations forces for eight years, and has been "embedded as a reporter with the U.S. Special Forces and 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan and Iraq more than a dozen times in the last five years."
Maurer also co-authored the controversial new book "No Easy Day," a first-person account by a Navy SEAL, under the pseudonym Mark Owen, of the "planning and execution of the [Osama] bin Laden raid."
Both books are currently available The Country Bookshop. For information, call (910) 692-3211.
