A Southern Pines man is facing multiple charges in connection with a reported assault.

Southern Pines police have arrested Melvin Patterson, 43, and charged him with felony common law robbery, misdemeanor false imprisonment, misdemeanor communicating threats, misdemeanor injury to real property and misdemeanor assault on a female.

The charges stem from an investigation by officers and investigators into an assault that was reported at 12:34 a.m. on Sept. 14 that occurred on West Wisconsin Avenue. Police said the victim have been and assaulted and her phone taken during the incident. The victim didn't receive any injuries requiring medical attention, police said.

Patterson was arrested without incident on Sept. 15. He appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Jail under 48-hour bond pending a hearing on Sept. 26 in Moore County district court.
