SP Man Faces Charges in Attempted Robbery

A Southern Pines man is facing charges in connection with a reported attempted robbery and assault that happened at 1550 U.S. 1 South in Southern Pines this weekend.

Southern Pines police have arrested Demetrius Louis Aggelis, 26, and charged him with felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The arrest stems from an investigation by the Patrol Division into a Robbery that was reported at 12:28 am on September 16, 2012 that occurred at 1550 US 1 Hwy South, Southern Pines, North Carolina. The victim resisted the robbery and fought back with Aggelis. The victim was assaulted, police said, and received injuries requiring medical attention from Moore County EMS.

Aggelis was located shortly afterward with the assistance of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and was arrested on Sept 17. He appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County jail under $15,000 bond pending a hearing on Oct. 24 in Moore County District Court.
