Moore Turned Its Back on Lakeview

I grew up in Lakeview and, while I no longer live there, I still own property and pay Moore County taxes.
It was interesting that The Pilot had a story about the fundraising event to repair the dam at Lakeview’s Crystal Lake (“The Place To Be,” Sept. 5), and also an article about the county commissioners’ discussion of debt (“County At Odds On Debt,” Sept. 5).
Moore County government has long turned its back on the taxpayers of Lakeview. County government has done nothing to help repair that stretch of road. Many people from the airport and Whispering Pines used this road to travel to jobs at Fort Bragg. This stretch of road was part of the original U.S. 1, our first national highway.
Moore County citizens have worked to have solid highways even before the automobile existed. But not these county commissioners.

Yes they did! They saw fit to take the taxpayer's money and put a stream crossing in a totally privately owned area...on the excuse that a fire truck couldn't cross the temporary crossing. But the people of Lakeview are on their own to try and raise the funds to repair their dam crossing that is used by a large amount of people. And an ambulance has a five minute further ride to go to Vass and then double back to Lakeview...five minutes that could mean the life of someone in trouble.
