The Reagan High School Raiders (3-1) scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to beat Pinecrest, 28-20 in non-conference football action tonight.
Caleb Anthony's 10-yard touchdown catch midway through the fourth quarter gave the Raiders a 21-20 lead and then the Raiders sealed the win by returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown inside the final minutes.
Pinecrest built a 20-7 lead thanks in large part to Jackson Maples. The junior kicker and defensive back had two interceptions and kicked field goals of 60 and 44 yards.
Trailing 21-20 late in the fourth quarter, the Raiders blocked two go-ahead field goal attempts by the Patriot kicker. The first, a 63-yard attempt, was negated by a roughing the kicker call. Four plays later, the Raiders again rose up and blocked the kick and this time linebacker Dakota Pinnix scooped the football up at the Raider 40 and raced untouched into the endzone.
The Raiders also blocked a 56-yard attempt by Maples in the second half.
The junior kicker wowed the crowed when he drilled a 60-yarder with 22 second remaining in the opening half to give the Patriots a 10-7 lead.
Joe Anderson (2 yards) and Dwayne Simpson (19 yards) scored the Patriot touchdowns.
Simpson's score gave the Patriots a 20-7 lead with 7:48 remaining in the third quarter.
Reagan answered quickly, picking up a 7-yard scoring run by running back Josh Brice with 5:57 left in the third. Brice scored on a two-point conversion to cut the margin to 20-15.
Devin Bricker scored the other Raider touchdown when he intercepted a pass and returned it 17 yards on the final play of the first quarter.
The Patriots (2-2) will play at Western Harnett next week before returning home for three straight.
