North Moore Falls in Girls' Tennis

After sweeping Albemarle 9-0 for its second Yadkin Valley Conference victory, the North Moore girls’ tennis team had the tables turned on them by East Montgomery Wednesday in Robbins. The visiting Lady Eagles, frustrated by an 8-1 loss to Gray Stone, swept the Lady Mustangs 9-0. The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-3 in conference action.

In the battle of No. 1s, Mustang senior Shannon Marley dropped her match 6-1, 6-0 to Monica Kellis while junior teammate Ciera McDonald lost 6-1, 6-1 to East’s Mallory Blake in the No. 2 singles spot.

At the No. 3 spot, North Moore senior Clarisa Gomez was blanked by Brynn Hinson 6-0, 6-0 with Mustang freshman Stephanie McNeill suffering her first loss of the season to Heather Reynolds 6-0, 6-2 in the battle of the fours. East’s No. 5 player, Samantha Stewart, defeated North’s sophomore Lydia Priest 6-0, 6-1. East’s No. 6 player, Elizabeth Romero, completed the singles sweep by shutting out Mustang freshman Keely Cleaveland 6-0, 6-0.

Marley and McDonald lost their doubles match 8-5 to East’s Stewart and Reynolds. Gomez and Amber Hussey lost their doubles match 8-4 while Priest and McNeill fell 8-2.

The Mustangs travel to Chatham Central Monday for a conference match. The match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
