What are the best interest rates available for investments? How can one reduce probate costs and estate taxation? How can one best prepare for long-term care?

These and many other questions will be answered in a Sandhills Community College course especially for retirees and pre-retirees titled Financial Decision Making for Retirees. This continuing education course will cover investments, estate planning, long-term care planning and income tax deduction.

The instructor, Noelle Granville, is a certified senior adviser with Granville Financial.

"With interest rates near all-time lows, the housing market still in the doldrums and the presidential election coming up, retirees need to be better educated to cover a multitude of risks with finances," Granville said.

The course will feature guest speakers, including a certified public accountant and an estate attorney.

The class will run for five weeks from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 13 and ending Oct. 11. It will be held in room 202 in Van Dusen Hall on the Sandhills campus.

To preregister, call (910) 695-3980. The cost is $35 but is free to students 65 and older.

Registration will continue through the first session.
