A Jackson Springs man faces a charge of felony assault inflicting injury by strangulation in connection with an incident reported Sunday at a home on Shaw Avenue in Southern Pines, according to police.

Shaquille Damon Jones, 18, is also charged with misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age, misdemeanor injury to real property and misdemeanor assault on a female.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation by the Southern Pines patrol division into an assault that was reported at just after 11 p.m. Sunday. Jones was arrested a short time later at 1000 Richards Street.

He appeared before a Moore County magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County jail under a $15,000 bond pending a hearing on Sept. 6 in Moore County district court.
