O'Neal Gets Wins in Volleyball, Soccer

The O’Neal volleyball team defeated Lee Christian Thursday in a heated two-and-a-half-hour battle.
The Falcons pulled out the win, and remained undefeated, by scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-20, 14-25 and 15-13.
Falcon coach Kendall Harper indicated that there was a large supportive crowd on hand for the home match.
Kill leaders for the Falcons were Katja Ehlers with nine, Taylor Shelton with six and Andie Schiable with four. Scottie McGowan had four assists.
Block leaders were Mary Winston Dozier with three and McGowan with two. Ehlers had a total of 15 digs and Kelly Griffin followed with 13.
McGowan also lead the team with four aces, while Shelton and Teresa Donner followed with two each.
The Falcons are now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cape Fear Independent Conference.
The Falcon junior varsity team also had a hard fought match, winning in three sets over Lee Christian.
O’Neal took the first game 25-17, lost the second 25-14 but claimed the victory over the visitors with a 25-22 triumph in the final game.
The jayvees are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The teams face Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville on Tuesday.
Soccer Romps
The O'Neal School boys’ soccer team made quick work of visiting Lee Christian School Thursday, claiming a 9-0 win in the nonconference action.
The game was called after 44 minutes because of the mercy rule. The Falcons improved to 5-1 on the year.
O'Neal played beautifully, said Falcon coach David Wood, working the ball around with one or two touches, possessing in Lee Christian's half of the field, and giving up only a handful of counterattacks.
Gates Moore, J.R. Moore and Mason Sullivan scored two goals each for the Falcons.
Jacob Talbert, Logan Butler and Josh Roberts scored one goal each for O'Neal. Rick Catania's provided five assists.
O'Neal travels to Fayetteville on Tuesday to play Fayetteville Academy in a game with huge Cape Fear Independent Conference standing implications, said Wood.
