Mustang Harriers Win O'Neal Invitational

O’Neal hosted the O’Neal Healy Invitational boys’ and girls’ cross country meet Thursday at Sandhills Community College. The meet included six teams: O’Neal, cross-county rival North Moore, Sandhills Classical Christian School, Grace Christian School, Flora McDonald Academy and Lee Christian School.
North Moore took both the girls’ and boys’ team titles with 22 points each. O’Neal took second in both meets with the boys having 46 points and the girls 33 points.
O’Neal freshman Hunter Atkinson won the girls’ individual race with time of 26:37 while North Moore sophomore Tristan Mackey took the boys’ title.
In the girls’ meet, North Moore swept the four spots behind Atkinson, with senior Jourdan Wofford, finishing second, freshman Haley Davis third, freshman Lauren Deview fourth and sophomore Merlin Cabrera fifth.
O’Neal juniors Aleksandra Majka and Allison Johnson placed sixth and seventh, respectively. North Moore senior Miranda Freeman was eighth followed by O’Neal sophomore Bronti Viskovich ninth and freshman Cydney Baldwin 10th.
Other runners for the O’Neal girls’ team were senior captain Courtney Morrison (18th), Julia Huesa (19th), Megan Bloom (22nd), Sierra Timme (26th) and Mary Catherine Coltrane (27th).
North Moore took third and fourth places in the boys’ meet, with senior Cole Garner taking third and freshman Tyler Hunsucker fourth, O’Neal’s junior captain Kyle Flechsig was fifth, followed by North Moore senior Luke Moore in sixth, O’Neal freshman Josh Russell seventh, North Moore junior Austin Hunsucker eighth and O’Neal junior Andy Smetana ninth.
Other runners competing for O’Neal were Josh Hager (15th), John Grimm (17th), Ivan Johnson (21nd), Harvey Anderson (46th), Evan Jones (47th), John Anderson (48th) and Spencer Barr (54th).
This was the opening meet for O’Neal, while North Moore was running its second meet in three days and was missing their top runner Alex Landers, who is traveling overseas.
North Moore next meet is a Yadkin Valley Conference meet at East Montgomery Sept. 4 while O’Neal travels to Fayetteville Academy Sept. 5.
