Pinecrest's first round playoff foe will be a very familiar one.
The sixth-seeded Patriots (5-6) will travel to Raeford to take on No. 3 seed Hoke County (8-2) in the opening round of play in the 4-AA Mideast bracket.
The two teams played Friday in the regular season finale, with Hoke taking a 35-7 victory at Pinecrest to secure the third seed in the Southeastern Conference. Pinecrest finished fourth in the conference.
The Patriot's bracket is one filled with familiar foes. A pair of 9-1 teams, Richmond and Jack Britt are the top two seeds in the Mideast 4AA bracket. Fuquay Varina and Green Hope, both 6-4 on the season are the fourth and fifth seeds respectively with Lumberton (5-5) as the No. 7 seed and Cary (5-5) the No. 8.
The Patriots lost in the opening round of last year's 4AA playoffs to eventual state champion Greensboro Page.
Defending 4A state champion and two-time reigning Southeastern conference champ Scotland (9-1) is the top seed in the 4A Mideast bracket. The Fighting Scots will open up with East Chapel Hill (5-5).
Purnell Swett was the one Southeastern conference team that didn't advance to the state playoffs.

The winner of Pinecrest @ Hoke County gets the Lumberton @ Jack Britt winner. Richmond Senior will host Cary. The winner of that contest gets the Green Hope @ Fuquay-Varina winner.

Pinecrests season comes to a end Friday. Hoke is just better than us. The more I watch football in Moore County the more I find myself wondering what we need to do to improve it at all of our high schools. North Moore winless. Union Pines won only 2 games against much smaller schools. Pinecrest had a couple of good wins but others against schools they should beat. What is the problem with football and Moore County?
