Goodness, what a dim view of America is Gail Hanley’s opinion column “About to Lose Hope For America” (Oct. 17). And not a single statistic to help us identify the source of her angst.

Ms. Hanley lives in Aberdeen, one of Moore County’s loveliest towns; yet she sees nothing to give her joy or hope.

The dear lady needs to get out more. Maybe turn off the tube, open the front door and come out to meet lovely, hard-working, non-doping, tax-paying, gentle, cheerful people who make the world better by having a nicer attitude.
