Stellar Opinion Page

The Sunday, Oct. 14, edition of The Pilot featured a stellar opinion page. It had a fitting tribute to Bill Friday, a detailed evaluation of our flawed electoral college system, and a candid critique titled “GOP Actions Have Been Un-American” (The Public Speaking).

All three deal with the theme of integrity or the lack of it.

Bill Friday’s life and career exemplified how important that quality is to a fair and functioning society.

David Page’s critique of our electoral system shows how its integrity has been compromised several times at a great cost to the nation. Congress needs to reform its rules so they can deal with issues like electoral reform.

Frank Lisco’s letter states the consequences we must bear when hypocrisy and secrecy replace integrity and transparency at the highest level of government, consequences that are not borne by the decision-makers.

We are fortunate to have a newspaper in what is virtually a one-party county, a county that makes voting accessible to all. The much touted “voter fraud” is almost unknown here.

For those who want to read a thoughtful treatment of the factors that have take us to our current place, I recommend E.J. Dionne’s new book, “Our Divided Nation’s Heart.”

I take it you call allowing and helping the Middle East crumble and fall into the hands of Islamists, cutting security for a facility of ours, in one of the messes made by actions taken and not, and then lying about what happened for 2 weeks, good upfront Government. Will you please explain this to the readers of this fabulous liberal newspaper's readers!! Lies about his pastor, parents, associates, motives, and a host of other things important to ALL Americans, Ted! Can you spell ACORN Sir??
