Mustang Harriers Finish Second in Conference Meet

The North Moore boys’ and girls’ cross country teams had one of their best ever performances in the Yadkin Valley Conference final meet held at Chuck Morehead Park, hosted by Gray Stone Wednesday.
The Lady Mustangs and the boys’ team both finished second in their respective meets with all nine conference teams competing. Host Gray Stone swept both meets run over the 5K course.
The Gray Stone girls tallied 28 points followed by North Moore’s 58 points, South Stanly 62, Chatham Central 90, East Montgomery 128, West Montgomery 153 and Albemarle 171.
In the boys’ meet, Gray Stone finished with a total of 27 points, followed by North Moore with 69 points, Chatham Central 70, West Montgomery 106, North Rowan 145, East Montgomery 152, South Stanly 163 and Albemarle 231.
“What a great season,” said North Moore coach Chris Coble. “I’m so proud of our team and how our kids performed in the meet and all season. Everyone pulled together and gave a super effort and the kids’ hard work paid off. We had six runners to make all-conference. It is a tremendous finish to the regular season and now off to the regionals on Oct. 27.”
Gray Stone senior Sarah Goodnight won the girls’ individual title with a time of 22:25.34, followed by North Moore freshman Lauren Deview with a time of 22:39.21. The top-12 finishers are members of the all-conference team, with North Moore having two more to make the team besides Deview. Mustang senior Jourdan Wofford finished 11th with a time of 24:53.27 and freshman Kylie Bouplon placed 12th with a time of 24:54.71.
Other runners for the Mustang girls’ team were senior Bethany Robbins (17th place), sophomore Merlin Cabrerra (20th) and freshman Haley Davis (27th).
Chatham Central’s Chris Jaeger won the boys’ title with a time of 18:17.48. North Moore freshman Tyler Hunsucker placed sixth with a time of 19:25.71, followed by sophomore teammate Tristan Mackey in seventh place with a time 19:31.92. Mustang senior Alex Landers made the all-conference squad, finishing 12th with a time of 19:53.14.
Other North Moore runners were senior Daniel Purvis (21st), senior Luke Moore (26th) and junior Austin Hunsucker (31st).
North Moore will compete in the Midwest regionals Oct. 27 being held at Kernersville’s Beeson Park.
