It was more than a battle between two highly ranked soccer teams when the 11th North Moore boys’ soccer team traveled to fifth ranked East Montgomery Tuesday night.
The outcome also had first place in the Yadkin Valley Conference riding on the outcome. The host Eagles were able to score the only goal needed in the first eight minutes of the contest and then held off the Mustangs for a 1-0 victory.
The two ranked teams played to a 0-0 tie in their first meeting at North Moore earlier in the season.
The win keeps the Eagles in first place with an 8-0-1 in league action and 13-3-3 overall. The Mustangs bounced back to get a 5-2 win at Gray Stone on Wednesday, securing a spot in the state 1-A playoffs for the 11th time in the last 12 years.
North Moore stands at second in the league with a 6-1-1 mark and is 8-4-1 overall.
