The Union Pines Lady Viking tennis team swept the top honors at the 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference tournament Thursday in Sanford.

Seniors Laura Cameron and Elena D’Argenio won their second league doubles titles, while Vike freshman Mary Beth Jackson claimed the conference singles crown. Melissa Tally met Jackson in the singles final, advancing to her fourth consecutive championship match. Tally etnered the event as the two-time reigning CFVC singles champ and 2009 doubles champion. The senior veteran put up a stern challenge in defending her title, but Jackson took three of the final four games of the championship match to notch a 10-7 victory.

Madi Kramer, a senior and two-time conference doubles champion, advanced to her third doubles final for Union Pines. With four tournament wins Kramer now has 99 career win and is 99-12 in her lady Vike career

Union Pines will host a first round 3-A state playoff match Tuesday against the No. 2 seed from the Mid-State conference at the John S. Frye Tennis Facility in Cameron.

Both the singles and the doubles championship matches were all-Viking bills. By virtue of the Lady Vikings’ performance Wednesday in Sanford during the opening day of CFVC tournament, Union Pines advanced four singles players and three doubles teams to individual regional playoff action.

Audrey Van Arsdale and Kailee Southworth join Jackson and Kramer as singles qualifiers. The doubles duo of Celine Bullock-Tabitha Hamilton join Kramer-Smith, and Cameron-D’Argenio to comprise the three Viking teams to advance to regional competition.

The 3-A Mideast Regional Tennis tournament is scheduled to take place at the Burlington Tennis Center on October 19 an 20.
