The Pinecrest boys and girls headed in opposite directions to participate in cross country meets last Saturday.
The Patriot boys competed in the 5K Boys Open Race at the 38th Wendy’s Invitational held at McAlpine Park in Charlotte. Led by junior Chris Kelly’s sixth- place finish in 16:07, they finished third behind two Tennessee schools, Hardin Valley Academy and Daniel Boone.
The six Patriot runners all finished within 38 seconds of each other, including Becket Killam, 14th (16:22), Jacob Troutman, 17th (16:25), Matt Harmody, 18th (16:27), Javier Bustos, 21st (16:34) and Robert Anderson, 29th (16:45).
Also for the Patriot boys, Brandon Elliott came in sixth (17:25) and Neil Clark finished 25th (18:06) in the boys’ freshman-sophomore race.
The Pinecrest girls trotted off to Greensboro, where they finished sixth in the championship girls’ race at the Hagan Stone Cross Country Classic. The team champion was West Springfield from Springfield, Va.
Contributing to the Patriot team score were Jaleigh Jensen, 15th (20:26), Mulloy Manning, 32nd (21:09), Zia Matti, 44th (21:35), Sarah Klug, 49th (21:47), and Kelsey Rea, 64th (22:18).
