Clouding the Issue

I read a letter to the editor recently by someone who proclaimed that he was no longer a Republican, because of what Rush Limbaugh had said about Sandra Fluke. That letter said volumes about what is going on today in politics.
First of all, if he reads Dusty Rhoades, he isn’t much of a Republican. Most of us would rather have a toothache. In this case, Dusty would have been right. Anyone who thinks as this man does is a RINO (Republican In Name Only). There is no loss to the party. Most importantly, it shows how a non-issue issue can be so prevalent in some people’s minds.
It clouds the message. The issue is that the government shouldn’t be involved in people’s private life choices. If someone wants to spend $3,000 a year on their contraception, they can certainly do so. If they want to use our tax dollars for that purpose, I have a problem.
This election should be about how we can get our country back on track, without being sidetracked. We need to find a way to have fewer people trying to find ways to spend tax dollars and more people working to provide them.
For those in Rio Linda, as Rush would say, that means fewer government employees and unions, and more support for private business.

I guess the commercials saying that Romney cause his wife to die of cancer, when Romney was nowhere near Bain at the time, or when Dingy Harry called Romney a possible felon, and God only knows how much nasty stuff was said about W. Yes Republicans are truely nasty. Keep in mind out there, 75% of what Democrats try to do is to buy votes and 25% is to pay people back for votes. Good post Polk!!

Yes, because Party members must keep their minds pure from exposure to other opinions. Anyone caught with a copy of The Pilot which contains a Dusty Rhoades column must be ruthlessly purged for the good of the Party.

A recent study suggests that offering free contraceptives reduces abortions by 71%. Who's not in favor of that?
madstork 7 months, 2 weeks ago
• JimHeim…where exactly do the “free” dollars come from to pay for such a program?
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
madstork, who cares? It's a trifling amount (after all, ObamaCare requires that contraceptive coverage be part of corporate health care) and it makes huge reductions in abortions. What's not to like? Don't you want to save all of those fetuses? What's a human life worth to you?

madstork 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I care about how US tax dollars are spent on all fronts. Military, Social, Educational... "trifling amounts" tend to add up. What's a human life worth to me comment is pedestrian. ACA is already out of spec as to budget, so we need to contain costs.
packwilleat 7 months, 2 weeks ago
"Who cares?" And with that masterful comment JimHeim has lost all forms of credibility here.

justpassingby, That phone program you speak of originated during the Reagan adminstration. It was expanded under the Clinton and Bush administrations. What has Obama to do with it?
And what have you got against poor people. Having telephone access is essential for getting and keeping a job. Don't you think having a job is a good thing?
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
TAP - Actually a majority of Americans support contraception and rely on it. Having it fully covered in their health plans is wildly popular with women. Failing to support the most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancies (and the abortions that frequently ensue) is a societal good. And it saves lives.
We will win on this issue.
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
madstork - All health plans - with some exceptions for religious organizations who cannot depend on free will to keep their followers in line - must now (thanks to ObamaCare) provide contraceptive devices and medicines without co-pays. Since the government already pays for half of the health care in this country (and would be running a surplus if we had a single-payer system), some of that cost is covered by public funds.
Medicare for All would solve a number of these issues, but readily available, affordable birth control is a laudable goal and if it prevents all of those abortions, I would expect a lot of conservatives to support it.
Just kidding. You troglodytes don't care a fig about the unborn. It's about punishing women for being sexually active.

CC85 Dusty has driven himself into the left ditch long ago. Him and Heim have been on the same sauce for a while. Heim you say it's such a small amount, but you say that about 5,000 different free things and there is your $6Trillion in debt in 3 1/2 years. If we try to support 20% of this country as poor, that's 64 million people. Do you know how many unionized federal workers it takes to run that kind of program?? Holidays, sick days, insurance, raises, fraud, training, and bosses conventions like GSA and Secret Service. Can you not do math? It's insane to keep this debate going on that basis alone! You can get your "feel good" a much cheaper way by volunteering instead of volunteering OUR hard earned money to give away! Does any of this make any sense to you Libs??

"The issue is that the government shouldn't be involved in people’s private life choices." Horse hockey. This isn't a real Republican principle until Republicans stop trying to legislate what people (especially women) can and can't do to their bodies, or who they can or can't marry.
I have a lot of issues of where my tax dollars goes. Like subsidies for big oil, or a war in Iraq that I didn't agree with that ultimately cost American lives with little reward in that region. So you'll have to excuse me, if I don't sympathize with you in your issues on "using your tax dollars" to pay for health care and contraceptives for women. Join the freaking club. We all pay for things we don't like.
justpassingby2 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks for proving my point JimmyH. I am the one who rightfully pointed out that you don't care about the poor only their vote or use of their vote. You are a complete phony. Letting illegals live here doesn't help the poor. The bush tax breaks don't help the poor. The stimulus money didn't help the poor. obamacare will add millions to the number of 'working poor'. What has our public school systems done for the poor? And what has obama and the other two stooges done for education? The phone system for the poor was always for LANDLINES not cell phones. How is it that so many that have obamaphones pay out of their own pockets for extra minutes and upgrades?
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
jpb - The FCC long ago expanded the program (which is not funded with taxpayer monies) to include cell phones. They probably should have stuck with telegraph to keep you happy.
One of the reasons the GOP is now primarily a party for the Confederate South is the gratuitous cruelty to the poor. While its true that Jesus famously scorned the poor and hobnobbed with the well-to-do, liberals think that helping the poor will make us a stronger society.
We will prevail.

JimHeimy ~ America was the strongest society in the world until the collectivist/socialistic mind set took hold. Weird how we became the strongest nation in the world by upholding individualism and liberty. But your idea sounds legit....... to other bleeding heart liberals. How's the war on poverty going by the way? One day you liberals will realise that you can't tax and legislate ourselves to prosperity. It's kind of like standing in a bucket and trying to pick yourself up by the handle.

I owe you a huge apology JimmYH! You are a much bigger idiot than I gave you credit for! Once again you can't answer the simple questions because your party has done NOTHING for the poor. But what really shows how really absolutely stupid you are is this response earlier about obamaphones: What has Obama to do with it?
HE IS THE PRESIDENT! What does who started any program have to do with it now?
What an idiot you are JimmyH! Leaves me speechless!

Useful Idiot from The Urban Dictionary
If you have never heard the term “useful idiot” it was the attitude held by Vladimir Lenin towards communist sympathizers in the West (America). While Lenin and the Soviets held them in utter contempt they also viewed them as tools for dispensing communist propaganda to other countries, thus infecting foreign cultures with their totalitarian tripe. After their mission was complete, they were no longer “useful.”
It's a term that refers to brainwashed American Marxists who blindly support any ideology that gets themselves out of real work and causes others to pay their way.
An American who espouses Marxist ideals is a useful idiot.

He will lie repeatedly for his PARTY, the country be damned! If you really want to stump him simply ask him a question that requires some thought that can't be answered by following the liberal playbook. Can't handle it!

Mr. Heim, unless contraceptives are 100% effective they are not as effective as abstinence. So, contraception is not the most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancies, celebacy is the most effective. Supporting abstinence is a societal good. And it saves lives, and bolsters morals, and prevents disease and promotes exercising one's right to be in charge of their own body. I believe a person has a right to choose whether or not to get pregnant. I do not think I should have to support that choice financially, baby's daddy should.
justpassingby2 7 months, 2 weeks ago
JimmyH, I have proven you are an idiot so many times now that dusty is getting worried that you are catching up with him! The whole obamaphone program is why we have so much trouble getting money for the truly needy in this country. They have taken what is a necessary service, entitlement for the jokers on the right, and turned it into a huge waste of taxpayer money. You are such an embarrassment to real democrats who really do care about the poor, less fortunate and those down on their luck. How do you live with yourself?

Like I said before, Heim and his pack are so full of Hate for people that don't believe in the killing of Unborn babies and an open society for any kind of lifestyle, that nothing real ever comes to mind. Not morals, right and wrong, debt, danger, the entire country or our military. They worry about small groups that make up very small %'s of our population, to keep their votes, so they will keep their control freaks in power. Lying is OK if it fits their plan, and criminal activity gets overlooked if they agree with the reason. Fast and Furious and Libya are 2 coverups that make Watergate look like a sneeze and do you see any rage from Heim. No Just More Oblaima someone else! Disgusting and totally renders libs hollow! When Oblaima lied about his parents being inspired by Selma to have him, and he was 4 years old when they marched, that sent no signal to Heim that this guy can lie about ANYTHING. That, Heim, is a frickin problem!! Lead your flock right off of the cliff!

Babiehop - I never said contraception is as effective as abstinence. On the other hand, abstinence only works until it doesn't. Anyone who expects people to deny themselves a sex life are doomed to a life of disappointment.
Abstinence remains its own worst punishment. Count me out. And count out anyone else with any sense at all.
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Do you know the difference between Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan? Lipstick! Hahaha
babiehop 7 months, 2 weeks ago
JimHeim, you called contraception the "most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancies " which I merely corrected. I said "I believe a person has a right to choose whether or not to get pregnant. I do not think I should have to support that choice financially, baby's daddy should." which I still believe. If one chooses to have an active sex life, that's perfectly fine, just don't expect me to have to pay for it. It is an adult activitity and adults should be responsible for their own behavior. Persons who lack the sense to control reproduction may also be "doomed to a life of disappointment" by creating lives that they are unable to properly support.
JimHeim 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Babiehop - Okay, let's be clear. Abstinence is a total failure. It does not prevent pregnancies, because those who are capable of sex generally practice it. If you expect to reduce unwanted pregnancies, abstinence is a total loser. And preventing unwanted pregnancies is a societal good.
The same goes for abortion. If you want to prevent it, contraception is the best strategy.
If you choose to be abstinent, more power to you. Leave the rest of us out of it.
I don't like paying for subsidies for oil companies, but that's the breaks.
babiehop 7 months, 2 weeks ago
What I choose is to be a responsible adult and no one other than myself and the person with whom I am involved finance my adult behavior, which means - I do leave everyone else out of it. If abortions aren't handed out, there will be less of them. If you want children to eat less sugar, just don't give out candy at Halloween, afterall, they don't understand the consequences of eating all that candy, right ?

Well Barbie, some kids have to go to schools that teach only abstinence, so they are unprepared for reality. Freely available contraception has been shown to reduce abortions by 71%. Abstinence has shown no reduction and may even contribute to it.
Abortion is not some seldom-used procedure. More than 30% of American women will have at least one in her reproductive years. If you want to reduce that number, provide contraception and I'll be on board with you. Try to do it by prohibition and i will fight every step of the way.
Liberty demands it.
