Pinehurst: The Men’s Golf Association played a Nassau tournament on Course No. 3 Sept. 25. The format was two best balls on par-4s and one best ball on par-3s and par-5s. Overall: Phil Reaper, Dennis McCann, Douglas Adams, Robert Van Lanigham, 100; Antoni Chempinski, Terry Lane, Philip Aruscavage, Howard Schwartz, 102; Terry Daly, John Roe, Tom Flanagan, Ted Rees, 103.

The Silver Foils played Oct. 3 in a better ball of pair – low gross and low net contest. Net – Pauline Roe and Courtney Herndon, 63; Cindy Motter and Joann Breslin, 67; Irene Corbin and Joyce Harter, 70.
The Chippers played Oct. 3 on Course No. 1 in a low net event with 100 percent of each players handicap needed for scoring: Marie Richmond, 31; Tracy Nater, 33; Francine Smarrelli, 36.
Sandhills Country Club: The club championship tournament was played Sept. 27, on Pinehurst No. 5.
Gross – Kendra Muir, 79 for women. David Muir, 75 for men.
Net – Women - Champion is Audrae Thibodeau at 69. Second, Beth Bennington, 70. Third, Emily Hanslohner, 71. Men – Champion is Bob Schnauffer, won in a match of cards at 63, over Ed Renner. Third – Jack McCarthy, 67; Mike McKertick, 68.
Whispering Pines: The Pinettes played on the East Course Oct. 2 in a low net tournament. Flight 1 – Jane Lankford tied at 72, with Sandy Hallet. Flight 2 – Nell Crawford, tied at 71, with Jan Marshall; Ginny Campling, tied at 74, with Judy Woodward. Flight 3 – Sharon Tate, 69; Nancy Donley, 70; Barb Harp, 71. Flight 4 – Kimi McDevitt, tied at 72, with Louise Warnimont; Millie Mills, 73. Flight 5 – Pam Dodge tied at 74, with Joyce Reitler and Carol Saylor.
Seven Lakes: The Women’s Golf Association held a member-guest tournament Sept. 25. Overall: Peggy Ballew, Sue Manley, Lucille Cardelle, Kristi Kraft, 119; Diane Boston, Carole Barnard, Barb Keiffer, Daryl Pierce, 125; Roni Hann, Darla Howe, Linda Strohmenger, Almira Weber, 128. Roni Hann and Lin Elliott won closest to the pin on No. 7 and Nancy Peterson and Karen Schmitt on the 17th hole.
The Women’s Golf Association played Oct. 2 in a Cordial Cup event. Flight 1 – Kathy Mokricky, 71; Joyce Charles, 73; Roni Hann, 74. Flight 2 – Lillie Alexander, 68; Donna McClung, 73; Grae Starwald, 75.
The Nine Hole Lakers played Oct. 3 for their monthly Cordial Cup, low net and low putts contest. Nancy Burgoon won the cup, with a net 38, in a match of cards over Judy Streit. Flight 1 – Ann McClymonds, 39; Diane Boston, 40 (MOC); Carol Dunn, 40 (MOC). Flight 2 – Judy Streit, 38; Judy Collins, 40; Gerry Sullivan, 41.
Knollwood: The Sandblasters played an individual low net by flight contest, on Oct. 2. Flight 1 – Paul Cottam, 32; Dick Kelly, 33. Flight 2 – Don Palmer, 32; Chuck Crum, 35. Flight 3 – Mac Andrews, 34; Bob Mellinger, 36. Paul Cottam won low gross with 40 and Paul Aschmetat won closest to the pin.
Nancy Jacobs is The Rainmakers’ 2012 club champion with a gross score of 43. Flight 1 – Gross – Diane Hendrick, 45. Net – Lois Vollmer, 32; Judy Smith, 35. Flight 2 – Gross – Mary Curl, 51. Net – Peggy Crew tied at 36, with Pat Easter, Joan Mangrum and Barbara Mellinger. Flight 3 – Gross – Carole Amlot, 55. Net – Liz Garner, 34; Honey Hackett, tied at 37, with Joanne Hoff.
Whispering Woods: The Men’s Golf Association played in a three-day “Ryder Cup” competition. Day one was a better ball format, day two was a four ball contest and day three was a singles format. Team Nelson defeated Team Hogan 6.50 points to 4.50 points. Team Nelson members were Ken Pomeroy, Charlie Frick, Hank Smallacombe, Bob Carlson, Joe Matejka and Bud Henty.
Midland: The Men’s Golf Association played Oct. 3, in an 18-hole, two best balls of the threesome competition. The overall winners were John Conroy, Paul Aschmetat and Dick Madiera at 126. Steve Zachary won low gross with 80.
The 9-hole players competed in a low net and skins format. Dick Kelley won low net with 31. In the skins game John Durkin won on hole No. 4 and Derrick North on hole No. 9.
The 18-hole Ladies Golf Association played Sept. 27 in a contest where each player could subtract their two worst holes for scoring. The winners were Pat Gannaway at 88 and Georgia Snow with 95.
In the 9-hole Ladies Association the format was their gross score less their worst hole. Bev Braunscheidel carded 40 and Mary Ann LaLonde, 47.
Southern Pines: Bonnie Quesenberry is the Par Seekers 2012 club champion, scoring a gross score of 164 over two days of competition.
Flight 1 – Gross - Susan Lewis, 182; Jenny Sherrill, 187. Net – Ann Kendall, 150. Flight 2 – Gross – Elaine Workman, 199; Ginger Addis, 206. Net – Joy Shelton, 152.
Pinewild: The Men’s Golf Association played in a peer play competition Sept. 27 on the Magnolia Course. Flight 1 – Gross – Tom Cecka, 80 (MOC); Bernie Schultz, 80 (MOC); Rocco Simone, 80 (MOC). Net – Scott Sheffield, 67 (MOC); Vern DeGrange, 67 (MOC); Fergie Ferguson, 68.
Flight 2 – Gross – Donald Appleman, 86; Gordon Rednour, 88; JC Norman, 90. Net – John Wake, 69; Jim Belford, 71; Bill Stevens, 72.Closest to the pin on No. 3 was Ray Slywka, on No. 7 Scott Sheffield, on No. 12 Rocco Simone, and on No. 15 it was Wayne Rhone.
Beacon Ridge: The 18-Hole Ladies played Sept. 25 in a Mutt and Jeff team event. Only scores on par-3 and par-5 holes counted for scoring. First – Barbara Card, Ellen Leslie, Mary Lois Teyssier, 57; Jeannie Auditore, Lois Owen, 58.
The Men’s Golf Association held their member-guest tournament on Sept. 27, 28 and 29.
Medinah: Mike Swenson, member, and Dale Andress, guest; Kiawah – Holton Easter, member, and Richard Shore, guest; Firestone – Mark Lindstrom, member, and Glenn Heffner, guest; Augusta: – Jan Pollnow, member, and Steve Pollnow, guest.
The flight winners then played a four-hole shootout with one team being eliminated on each hole. The winner of the shootout was the team of Mike Swensen and Dale Andress of the Medinah Flight. This elevated the team of Dick Van Horn and Dennis Strange from a second place finish in the Medinah Flight to the winner of that flight.
