The Pinecrest boys’ soccer team traveled to Lumberton on Wednesday night for its second Southeastern Conference game with the Pirates, taking a 4-1 victory to preserve their perfect conference record to 6-0-0.
Jake Harbeck, on an assist from “G” Peraza, scored the initial goal, with Peraza scoring unassisted for a 2-0 cushion in the first 40 minutes.
Seniors Hayden Little (assist from Phil Lett) and Taylor Morton (assist from Rene Cruz) scored in the second half.
According to Patriot coach Evan Saleeby, Pinecrest dominated the midfield and moved the ball well in the first half.
“In the second half, the officials let the match get out of control, and we let Lumberton back into the game,” he said. “But we responded well and scored two nice goals to seal a win.”
Junior Garrett Melia went the distance for the Patriots in goal.
This much-needed win came after the Patriots traveled to East Chapel Hill last Thursday for a rematch with the Wildcats. The Patriots came away empty-handed, following a 6-0 loss.
“Against East Chapel Hill, we didn’t come out strong, even though during the first part of the game it was fairly even,” said Saleeby. “When they scored, we lost our composure and fell apart. Hopefully, it’s something that we learn from.”
Coach Jordan Beck’s junior varsity squad beat the Pirates, 1-0. Cole Ritch was credited with the score.
The Patriots (8-2-2 overall) see action in another away game on Monday night at Scotland High and then host Purnell Swett’s varsity on Wednesday night.
