I went to Chapel Hill on Thursday, Sept. 27, and purchased gas for $3.60 per gallon in Tramway/Sanford. It was $3.89 per gallon in West End, Pinehurst and Carthage. Wow! A savings of 26 cents per gallon.
Two days later local gas was still $3.89 per gallon, and I paid $3.52 per gallon in Fayetteville, a savings of 37 cents per gallon. Why?

I never fill up here. It's always $.30 or more cheaper just outside of the county. Asheboro last weekend was $3.56 and $3.88 in West End. Must be to pay for all of the Pinehurst patrol cars. 20 or so!!

It must be Wednesday, time for the obligatory letter complaining about gas prices in Moore County. Buy your gas somewhere else.

$3.60 in Sanford, $3.89 Carthage. Who was the one who said there is no gouging here?

Jim, you are right. Gas prices in Moore county average around .30 cents more per gallon than in neighboring counties. The standard answer that most station owners give me for the higher prices is, "This is a resort area and we can get higher prices." However, I asked one female store owner why prices are so much higher here and she replied, "I know, I am going to drop my prices even though I know the other owners will give me hell. This statement told me that owners are conspiring to keep prices artificially high in Moore county. This is against the Sherman Antitrust laws and we should all file a complaint with Roy Cooper, the NC State Attorney General at: http://www.ncdoj.gov/getdoc/59be4357-41f3-4377-b10f-3e8bd532da5f/Complaint-Form.aspx
The more of us that file a complaint, the more likely we will get fair gas prices in Moore County.
