Police Charge Man Following Traffic Pursuit

An Apex man is facing multiple charges, including felony flee to ellude arrest, after Southern Pines police arrested him following an investigation into a report of an erratic driver made on Nov. 22.

Damien Mishaun Durant, 20, of Apex, is charged with felony flee to ellude arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, misdemeanor injury to personal property, failing to stop for a stop sign and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

On Nov. 22, patrol officers investigated a report of an erratic driver. A pursuit ensued during which the driver of the vehicle left the vehicle in drive, bailed out and fled on foot. The vehicle struck the iron fence owned by Brookside Park Apartments causing damage. The driver was identified as Durant by the officers and warrants were issued.

The following day Mr. Durant surrendered himself for arrest at the Moore County Detention Center in Carthage, North Carolina. As a result of these charges the vehicle was seized.

Durant appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Jail with an $11,000 secured bond pending a hearing in Moore County District Court on Dec. 6.
