Vikings, Mustangs Split in Basketball

North Moore and Union Pines earned a split Tuesday in nonconference high school basketball at Robbins.
The Lady Mustangs took the opener over the visiting Vikings by a 59-44 score. North Moore broke open a close game by going on a 2202 run over the final minutes of the third period and midway through the fourth.
Jalisa Davis paced the Mustangs with 24 points. North Moore improves to 2-0 while the Lady Vikings dropped to 1-2.
In the nightcap, the Union Pines boys pulled out a 57-44 win over North Moore.
The Mustangs pulled to within two points with 4:22 left in the game, but back-to-back driving layups by Dionte Williams and Malik Crawford propelled the Vikings on a 15-4 over the rest of the contest for 13-point win. Shakeem McRae and Crawford led the Vikes with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Union Pines is now 2-1 and the Mustangs are 1-1.
The Mustangs get back into action tonight (Wednesday) when Eastern Randolph comes to Robbins for another nonconference encounter. Union Pines entertains East Montgomery Friday.
The girls' games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. followed by the boys' matchups, both tonight and Friday.
