Patriots, Mustangs Open With Wins

Pinecrest opened its basketball season in fine fashion Monday at Southern Lee.

The varsity boys’ squad picked up a 67-54 win, while the girls grabbed a 52-39 win over the homestanding Cavs, who play in the 3-A Cape Fear Valley Conference.

The Patriots, a member of the 4-A Southeastern Conference, also won both the girls and boys junior varsity games.

North Moore took to the road and grabbed wins over North Stanly, a 2-A school. The Mustang girls defeated the Comets 54-49, while the boys picked up a 50-42 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

North Moore is a member of the 1-A Yadkin Valley Conference.

Over in Cameron, Union Pines, a member of the Cape Fear Valley Conference, opened its season by taking on the 4-A Terry Sanford Bulldogs. The Viking boys dropped a 64-48 decision, while the Viking girls fell 58-25.
