Sanford Man Charged in Assault of Cameron Police Chief

Sheriff Lane Carter reports that on November 15, 2012 the Moore County Sheriff’s Office took a report reference an assault on Chief Gary McDonald with the Cameron Police Department. The assault occurred while Chief McDonald was out on patrol on Carthage Street. Chief McDonald came up on a vehicle that was stationary in the side ditch just past the railroad tracks on Carthage Street. As Chief McDonald was checking on the occupants in the vehicle one of the occupants assaulted Chief McDonald causing loss of consciousness. The subject that assaulted Chief McDonald fled on foot into the woods before he could be apprehended.

On November 16, 2012 Moore County Sheriff's Investigators along with the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason Roy Brazell, 31 years old, 619 Hawkins Avenue, Sanford, N.C. Brazell was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for December 06, 2012 in Moore County District Court in Carthage, N.C.

Brazell was also charged with resisting public officer at the time of his arrest in Lee County and he received an additional $2,000.00 secured bond for that charge.
