The North Carolina Department of Public Safety and the State Highway Patrol on Tuesday honored a Moore County-based trooper who died in the line of duty 50 years ago.
Patrolman Henry A. Hight died in 1962 after an automobile accident. He was attempting to aid a fellow officer when the accident happened.
The bridge named in Hight's honor is the southbound bridge as you enter Moore County from Lee County on U.S. 1, said First Sgt. T.D. Simmons of the highway patrol.
The ceremony was held in the Cameron Elementary School Auditorium.
